Pamukkale hot springs at a glance
Pamukkale is a hillside of white travertine terraces, shaped by warm spring water rich in calcium, with the Roman spa city of Hierapolis on the plateau above. Both lie about 18 km north of Denizli in western Türkiye. They were inscribed as one UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.
The name promises hot springs, but the terraces are not an open bathing area. The natural terraces are protected, and you walk barefoot on the marked paths. Swimming is possible in one separate, ticketed place, Cleopatra's Pool (Antique Pool), among fallen Roman columns.
A visit has three parts. The terraces and Hierapolis share one ticket, the Antique Pool is an extra, and the archaeological museum in the Roman baths is free. This guide covers all of it, with 2026 prices. Euro prices are charged in Turkish lira at the day's rate, so the lira amount moves.

Our picks: Pamukkale balloon flights and day trips
Our take: the sunrise balloon is the one to book if you are staying overnight. From the Aegean coast, the Izmir trip includes the site entry, and the small-group trip from Antalya is the low-cost day from the south coast.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide. Prices are indicative starting prices in euros (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

Pamukkale: frequently asked questions
Where is Pamukkale and how do I get there?
Pamukkale lies in Denizli province, about 18 km north of Denizli city. The nearest airport is Denizli Çardak, roughly 70 km away, about an hour by road. Coaches run to Denizli from Antalya (from about 2 hours 50 minutes) and Istanbul. See getting there.
How much is the Pamukkale ticket?
Foreign adults pay €30 in 2026 for the terraces and Hierapolis on one ticket. Foreign children up to 8 enter free with a passport or ID card. The Antique Pool costs extra, and the museum is free. Details on the tickets page.
Can you swim in the travertine pools?
Not in the natural terraces, which are protected. Swimming is possible in the Antique Pool, a separate ticketed area with fallen Roman columns in the water. Check that it is open before you plan around it. See Cleopatra's Pool.
Can I visit Pamukkale in one day from the coast?
Yes, many visitors do. Day trips from Antalya take about 3 to 4 hours each way and 11 to 12 hours in total, and start with a hotel pickup in the morning. Compare examples on the tours page and the Antalya page.
When is the best time to go?
Mean daily highs in Denizli reach about 35 °C in July and August. April, May and October are milder, and winters are cooler and wetter. See best time to visit.
Is pamukkalehotsprings.org the official site?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not run by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Pamukkale-Hierapolis site, the Antique Pool or any balloon company, tour operator or hotel.
