Cleopatra's Pool (Antique Pool) at a glance

The Antique Pool sits inside Hierapolis, on the plateau above the white terraces. Fallen marble columns lie in the water, and visitors can swim among them. Swimming is a separate ticket. You need the site entrance first, and then a pool ticket on top of it.

For the season from 14 September 2026 to 1 May 2027, swimming costs TRY 600 for foreign adults and TRY 300 for foreign children aged 7 to 12. Children aged 0 to 6 swim free. Toilets, showers and lockers are available.

One thing to check before you plan around the pool: its status. The pool was closed for renovation from January 2025, and reopening was announced for 1 May 2026. Check whether swimming is currently possible before your visit, at the gate or with your hotel.

Our picks: day trips with time for the pool

Our take: the Antalya trip plans a stop at Cleopatra's Pool; from the Aegean, the Kuşadası trip is the cheaper day. The swim itself is paid separately on both.

Is Cleopatra's Pool open?

Closed for renovation, reopening announced for 1 May 2026.

The pool was closed from January 2025 for renovation, and reopening was announced for 1 May 2026. Check the current swimming status before your visit, and treat the swim as a possible bonus and not as a fixed part of the day.

If swimming is the reason for your trip, ask your hotel or your tour company on the day before, and look at the entrance when you arrive. If the pool is closed, the terraces, the theatre and the necropolis of Hierapolis are still open, and our Hierapolis guide shows what to see there.

House rules, water and what to bring

What is posted at the pool, and what to expect.

Swimwear and the 2-hour limit

Swimwear is required. The house rules allow up to 2 hours in the water and ask you to follow the staff's instructions.

No oil, no jumping

Sun or tanning oil is not allowed in the pool, and neither is jumping in or diving. Children must be supervised by their parents.

Stones and depth

The stones can be slippery or sharp, so take your steps slowly. The depth varies and reaches more than 2 m in places. Do not assume that you can stand everywhere, and keep weaker swimmers near the edge.

Water temperature

The water at the spring is about 36 °C. The temperature in the pool can differ from place to place. Nothing here is a health claim for thermal water.

Health notes

The house rules also exclude pregnancy, heart disease and high blood pressure. That is a house rule and not medical advice. If you are unsure, ask the staff on site or a doctor before you get in.

Lockers and changing rooms

Lockers, changing rooms, showers and toilets are available at the pool. Bring a swimsuit, a towel and a bag for wet clothes.

Hours, crowds and the best time to swim

From 14 September 2026 to 1 May 2027, the pool is open from 08:00 to 17:30. Plan to finish well before closing time. Summer hours were longer in 2026, and the season changes the times, so check the opening hours page before you go.

The pool tends to be quieter early in the morning. In season it gets busier between about 11:00 and 17:00. If you arrive on a day trip, your time slot is set by the tour, so ask the guide how long you have for swimming.

Fallen columns in the water of the Antique Pool

Columns, earthquakes and the Cleopatra legend

What the pool is, and what it is not.

UNESCO describes the pool as formed by earthquakes and thermal springs, with ancient columns and marble elements lying in the water. The exact year in which the columns fell is uncertain.

The name is a legend. Stories say that Cleopatra bathed here, but there is no secure evidence that she ever visited. The nickname is part of the place, and the Turkish name is Antik Havuz, the Antique Pool. Nobody should expect a cure or a rejuvenating effect from the water.

For the wider region, including the pool as one of the stops of a longer stay, see the Antique Pool in the Denizli guide.
