Where to stay in Pamukkale
You have three practical bases. The village sits at the foot of the terraces, where the pedestrian entrance starts. Karahayıt is a separate thermal hotel area about 5 km away. Denizli is the city, about 18 km from Hierapolis, with bus and train connections.
This page covers areas, not individual hotels or prices. If you prefer not to arrange the trip yourself, you can base yourself on the coast and join a guided day. Our page on Pamukkale tours compares what is included.

The three areas compared
Pick by what you want to do, not by a ranking.
| Area | Distance to the site | Good for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pamukkale village | At the pedestrian entrance | Early starts, evening walks, balloon pickups | Walking time depends on the address |
| Karahayıt | About 5 km | Thermal hotel stays, a base away from the entrance | A hotel stay does not include entry to the site |
| Denizli | About 18 km | Bus and train connections, city services | A daily trip to the site; dolmuş takes 20 to 25 minutes |
For most first-time visitors, the village is the simplest base. Choose Karahayıt if a thermal hotel is the point of the stay, and Denizli if you arrive or leave by bus or train and want city services.
Our pick: a guided walk from the village
Our take: staying in Pamukkale lets you join a walk that starts at the south gate.

Pamukkale tours with hotel pickup
Day trips, guided visits and sunrise activities, with live prices and availability.
Pamukkale village
At the foot of the terraces.
Why stay here
The pedestrian entrance is at the lower end of the terrace walkway. A bed close to it makes early and late visits easy and shortens the walk before sunrise activities.
Check the address
How far a hotel is from the entrance depends on the street, so look at a map for your address instead of trusting a general description. The village walkway has its own opening hours, shorter than the main gates in winter.
Pamukkale opening hours →Sunrise activities
A standard balloon flight includes transfers from Pamukkale and Karahayıt; pickup in Denizli or at the airport costs extra. Paragliding packages usually include a hotel transfer in the Pamukkale area.
Pamukkale hot air balloon →Karahayıt
The thermal hotel area nearby.
What to expect
Karahayıt is known for thermal hotels with indoor and outdoor pools and for its Red Spring, about 58 °C with rust-red iron deposits. It lies about 5 km from Pamukkale.
Karahayıt and the Red Spring →Entry is separate
A thermal hotel stay does not give you a ticket for Hierapolis or a swim in the Antique Pool. Plan the site ticket and the pool fee on top.
Pool conditions
Water temperature and rules differ between hotels, and so does access for non-guests. Ask before you book if the pool matters to you. This guide does not make health claims about the water.
Getting to the terraces
You need a transfer or a short ride to the site, so ask your hotel how it works and when it runs.
Denizli
The city with the transport links.
Why stay here
Denizli has the long-distance bus station and the train station. If you arrive late by bus or train, or leave early, a bed in the city saves a transfer.
The daily trip
You travel to the site each day. A dolmuş from the bus station takes about 20 to 25 minutes in the daytime, and a municipal bus line, number 230, is another option. Check the last departure so you can return in the evening.

From Denizli you can also plan trips to other sites in the region. The city has its own guide with areas and hotels.
How to choose
Four questions that decide it.
How do you arrive?
By bus or train, Denizli is the first stop. By car or with a hotel transfer, the village or Karahayıt works from the start.
Do you plan a sunrise flight?
Then a bed in the village or Karahayıt is easier, as pickups run early and the exact time arrives the evening before.
How many nights?
For one night, the village keeps the schedule simple. For several nights with side trips, Denizli adds flexibility.
Is the thermal hotel the main point?
Then Karahayıt fits. Confirm the pool conditions with the hotel before you book.
Plan the rest of your trip
