A Pamukkale tour from Antalya: how the day runs

Pamukkale lies about 240 km from Antalya, and most of the day is spent in the vehicle. Plan for about 3 to 4 hours each way, and the visit itself takes the middle of the day. One typical schedule picks you up around 06:30, spends roughly 10:30 to 15:00 at the terraces and Hierapolis including lunch, and returns to the hotel around 19:30.

Tours from Antalya and Kemer usually include the hotel transfer, a guide and lunch. Entrance to the terraces and Hierapolis is included in some offers and sold separately in others, and swimming in the Antique Pool is an extra in the examples below. Compare the inclusions before you compare the prices.

For most visitors staying in Antalya or Kemer, a guided tour of 11 to 12 hours with hotel pickup is the simplest option. The Side tour makes a 17-hour day, so it suits people who accept an early start and a late return. Children's prices and meals differ between offers, so read the offer for the age limits and for what the meal covers.

Planning the Pamukkale day trip from Antalya

The points that decide whether the day works.

Pickup and drive

Pickup times depend on your hotel area and the tour. Driving times are planning figures and change with traffic and pickup rounds, so treat 3 to 4 hours as an estimate and not as a guarantee.

Time at the site

Plan for roughly 4 to 5 hours between arrival and departure including lunch. From 14 September 2026 to 1 May 2027 the gates open at 08:00 and the village footpath closes at 17:00. Hours change with the season, so check the opening hours page before you go.

Entrance and pool

Adults from abroad pay €30 for the terraces and Hierapolis together. Children up to and including 8 years enter free with a passport or ID card. Swimming in Cleopatra's Pool (Antique Pool) is a separate ticket, and its status is worth checking before you go. Details are on the Cleopatra's Pool page and on the tickets page.

Shoes on the terraces

On the white travertine you walk barefoot. Bring a small bag for your shoes, and see the travertines guide for the rules on where you may step.

Alanya and other starting points

Tours also leave from Alanya and other coastal towns. Check the pickup time and the total length in each offer, because the figures differ by operator. For a longer stay, getting to Pamukkale shows the bus and train options, and things to do around Denizli covers Laodikeia, Aphrodisias and Salda Lake.

Bus from Antalya instead of a tour

Cheaper, but you plan the day yourself.

An intercity bus from Antalya to Denizli takes from 2 hours 50 minutes, with up to 10 departures a day on the route. It ends in Denizli, not at the terraces. From the bus station you still need a local minibus or taxi for the last stretch to Pamukkale, so the bus arrival is not the arrival at the gate. A same-day return by bus leaves less time at the site than a tour, so some visitors stay a night in Pamukkale or Karahayıt. Our where to stay page compares the areas.

Pamukkale from Antalya: frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Antalya to Pamukkale?

Tours plan about 3 to 4 hours each way, and the distance is about 240 km. Traffic and pickup rounds can add time, so a day trip lasts 11 to 12 hours or more.

Is the entrance ticket included in an Antalya tour?

It depends on the offer. Some tours include the entrance for the terraces and Hierapolis, and others list it as an extra. The Antique Pool is an extra in the examples above, so read the inclusions before you book.

Is one day enough?

One day gives you the terraces, Hierapolis and lunch. It does not leave room for a long swim, a balloon flight at sunrise or a slow walk through the ruins. If you want more time, stay a night near Pamukkale.

Can I go by public bus and return the same day?

It is possible on paper, because buses between Antalya and Denizli run several times a day. After the transfer in Denizli and the return trip, the time at the site is much shorter than on a guided tour.

Is this an official Pamukkale website?

No. This is an independent guide. It is not run by the museum, the ministry or a tour operator, and it does not sell entrance tickets. Tour cards link to booking partners.
